End of Grace Period for UHC HMO Plans

Grace Period for UHC HMO Plans

UnitedHealthcare has extended the grace period related to its HMO specialist referral requirements, with a new deadline TBD.  However, Orthopedic Physician Associates (OPA) strongly encourages all patients with UHC HMO plans to continue obtaining a referral from their primary care provider before scheduling or attending orthopedic appointments. While the extension may provide temporary flexibility, referrals remain an important part of ensuring uninterrupted access to care and avoiding potential claim or coverage issues when the grace period ultimately ends. Patients are encouraged to contact their PCP and secure the appropriate referral as soon as possible to help prevent delays in treatment and ensure a smooth care experience. For questions about your specific coverage or referral status, please contact OPA for assistance.

What Patients Should Do:

  • Review current insurance coverage and confirm plan details
  • Contact UnitedHealthcare directly to understand network status and benefits
  • Reach out to our office to discuss continuity of care options
  • Explore alternative plans if necessary during applicable enrollment periods

Our team remains committed to supporting patients through this transition and will work closely with individuals to navigate any changes in coverage.

For questions or assistance, please contact OPA at 206.386.2600.
