Sean D. Toomey, M.D.
Dr. Sean Toomey is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. He performs over 400 joint replacement procedures each year in addition to many knee arthroscopies. He is actively involved in clinical research, has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has given national and international lectures on joint replacement topics and advanced orthopedic techniques.
Dr. Toomey focuses his practice on minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery. This includes tissue sparing Direct Anterior approach for total hips and robotic-arm assisted techniques for total knee, partial knee, and direct anterior hip replacement surgery.
He performed the first robotic-assisted orthopedic knee replacement in Seattle in 2010 and has performed several hundreds since that time. Robotic-arm assisted surgery is the most precise joint replacement technology available today, and he is one of the most experienced robotic-arm assisted orthopedic surgeons in the greater Seattle and Puget Sound region, having performed over 6000 partial knee, total knee and total hip replacements using this advanced technology. Dr. Toomey is committed to using the best techniques available for patients today while actively researching improved surgical options for patients in the future.
Dr. Toomey became interested in orthopedic surgery as he grew up watching his father, Dr. Hugh (Pete) Toomey, also a joint replacement specialist, interact with patients. Dr. Toomey is an avid soccer player, and played collegiately for the University of Notre Dame. His interests include reading, skiing, cycling, travelling and photography.

Dr SeanToomey! I first went to him in 2011. I had a hip replacement done in 2009 by another doctor in another city who kept sending me to physical therapy for all the pain I had constantly. I took my x-rays to Dr Toomey & he saw the problem with one look! He removed the prosthesis that I had and replaced it. (See below.) So I had the same hip replaced twice within two years! I’ve had no issues since. I had a torn meniscus from a fall in my knee which he fixed in surgery a couple of years ago. He also did a knee replacement two years ago! Again no issues!!
I recently saw him again for an injection in my other leg/knee! For the first time in a long time I’m totally pain free!! Dr Toomey! Really knows his stuff! His staff is wonderful! Dr Toomey is very caring and very kind! Again I’m totally 💯 pain free!!
16 years ago we chose him to replace my husbands osteonecrosed hip which had excellent results that exceeded our hopes for mobility and pain relief.
Now I am the patient and confidently choosing him for replacement of my osteoarthritic hip. With each appointment I am reminded how lucky to have him in my corner to overcome this health obstacle.

Same 5 stars. Post surgery 6 months right knee, 3 months left knee. First image taken August 29, 2024, most recent showing implants taken 4.16.25. Dr. Toomey is beyond excellent, his assistant Flora a compassionate and knowledgeable PA. I am thankful for both of them and their team of assistants.
